We all know that rainbows have seven vibrant colours. But remembering their order can be tricky!
Children (and even adults!) often rely on visual memory or the classic acronym we learned in school. But wouldn’t it be great if kids could recall the rainbow’s colour sequence effortlessly?
That’s why I’ve created the “Colors of the Rainbow” Educational Poster—a fun and simple way to help kids learn and retain the order of the rainbow’s colours.

What Are the 7 Colors of the Rainbow in Order?
One of the most commonly asked questions on Google is: “What are the colours of the rainbow in order?”
From outer to inner, the rainbow colours appear in this sequence:
- Red
- Orange
- Yellow
- Green
- Blue
- Indigo
- Violet
These colours always follow this pattern in a natural rainbow due to light refraction and dispersion.
Easiest Way to Remember the Rainbow’s Colors
The best way to memorize the colours is by using an acronym—a memory trick that forms a word or phrase using the first letter of each colour.
The most well-known acronym for rainbow colours is ROYGBIV (Roy G. Biv).
To make it more fun for kids, here’s a catchy sentence they can remember:
“ROY Got Biscuits In Venice!”
You can swap out “Biscuits” for Burgers or Bananas—whatever works best for your child!
Tip: Say the phrase aloud while pointing at the colours in a rainbow drawing to reinforce learning.
