Things you need to make the Torn Paper Watermelon

Instructions to make a Torn Paper Watermelon Craft

Let’s start by preparing our “watermelon rind” and “flesh”! Tear your green and red cardstock (or construction paper) into small pieces, about 1 cm in size.

We love using cardstock because its thickness gives the torn edges a lovely, textured look. You’ll also need a few small black pieces for the watermelon seeds.

Tip: Try tearing the paper in different ways – straight tears versus more jagged ones – to see the different effects!

Download the free watermelon template and print it on a thick sheet of paper. We recommend using 120 GSM printing paper for best results.

Apply a thin layer of white glue to the green section of your printed template.

Start sticking the torn green paper pieces one by one, staying within the lines until the outer curve (the rind) is completely covered.

Repeat the process for the red part of the watermelon. Apply glue and stick the red torn paper pieces. Add a few black pieces here and there to mimic watermelon seeds.

Once all sections are covered, let the craft dry for about 5 minutes. Then, carefully cut out the watermelon along the edges.
