Things You’ll Need to Create the Solar System Craft
To get started on this out-of-this-world project, gather the following materials:
- Solar System Craft Printable (available in our printable shop)
- 2 Black Cardstock Paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pencil
- Brown Paint(Optional)
- Q-tip (Optional)

Step-by-Step Guide to Making the Solar System Craft
Get the Printable: Start by downloading and printing the Solar System Craft printable on sturdy cardstock paper.
Cut Out the Pieces: Carefully cut out all the elements from the printable, including the eight planets, the sun, their labels, and the white strips for creating the 3D effect.
Prepare the Base: Glue the two black cardstock sheets together along the shorter edge to create a wide base for your solar system.
Draw Concentric Circles: Leave some space for the sun on the Black base. Then using a plate or compass, draw 8 concentric circles with a pencil. We recommend spacing them about 5cm apart to represent the orbits.
Create Paper Squares: First, pre-fold along the lines using a ruler before cutting the Paper into individual Strips.
Fold the white paper strips into squares by glueing the ends.
These squares will elevate the planets from the base, giving the craft a 3D effect.
Assemble the Solar System: Glue the squares onto the appropriate orbit lines and attach the planets on top.
This gives a 3D effect that brings the solar system to life!
The child will Stick the planets one by one in order.
Label the Planets:
Let kids label each planet. This reinforces their knowledge of planet names and their order.
Optional Addition: The Asteroid Belt
