How to Make a Scarecrow Craft?
Step 1: Download and print the Scarecrow Template
Start by downloading the scarecrow template provided at the end of this post. Use the template to cut out the shirt, pants, hands, and face from your chosen papers.
For this example, we used scrapbooking paper for the shirt and pants, and jute fabric for the hat. Feel free to get creative with textured papers, felt, or patterned papers for the scarecrow’s clothing!
Step 2: Create the Scarecrow Face
Cut the face out of brown paper. Draw the eyes and mouth on the face piece, and then add details to the shirt, like buttons, pockets, or even a collar. Use a black pen to draw on the details, or cut them out from different coloured papers for a more three-dimensional effect.
Step 3: Assemble the Hat and Pant
We added a thread to the hat for extra detail, but you can make a paper hat instead and use a black pen to draw on the details. If you want to give your scarecrow a weathered look, add colourful patches to the clothing.
We used felt for the patches, but paper works just as well.
Step 4: Build the Body
Take two popsicle sticks and glue them together in a “T” shape. This will form the base of your scarecrow. Attach the shirt to the horizontal stick and the pants to the vertical stick.
For a stronger hold, we recommend using a hot glue gun, but generous amounts of paper glue will work too if you’re crafting with kids.
Step 5: Add the Finishing Touches to the Scarecrow Craft
Finally, create the scarecrow’s hair. Cut two small rectangular pieces of black or beige paper and fringe one of the shorter edges. Glue these fringed pieces to either side of the face, then attach the hat on top.
And that’s itโyour scarecrow is complete!
Feel free to experiment with different colours and textures to create unique scarecrows. Here’s another example we made using felt. Aren’t these scarecrows just adorable?
Enjoy crafting with your little ones and creating your very own scarecrow this fall season!
