In the Hindu epic Ramayana, Ravana is shown with 10 heads and 20 arms. But there are many stories about why he had 10 heads.
One story says that Ravana’s mother gave him a magical necklace that made him look like he had 10 heads while he wore it!
As per Ramayana, people also interpret Each of Ravana’s heads as representing a different quality, showing both the good and bad sides of human nature. Here are the meanings of his heads:
- Kama (Lust): Uncontrolled desire.
- Krodha (Anger): Rage and aggression.
- Moha (Delusion): Confusion and attachment.
- Lobha (Greed): Wanting too much.
- Mada (Pride): Arrogance and egotism.
- Matsarya (Envy): Jealousy and rivalry.
- Manas (Mind): Thoughts and emotions.
- Buddhi (Intellect): Intelligence and reasoning.
- Chitta (Will): Strong will and determination.
- Ahamkara (Ego): Self-centeredness.

- 120 Gsm Printing Paper
- Scissor
- Glue stick
How to Make the Ravana Craft!
Before starting the craft, you can teach kids the story of Ravana and the meaning behind his 10 heads.
First, download and print the Free Ravana template.
The faces are left blank on purpose. Ask kids to think of 10 bad qualities they want to let go of this year and write them on each face.
This can be a great way to talk with your child and understand their thoughts and emotions. If they get stuck, help them by suggesting words like “anger” or “greed.”
You don’t have to focus on the Actual traits of Ravana (10 words listed in the Previous Section). For example, it is had to explain the meaning of Lust to kids.
After writing, help them cut out the Ravana and the flaps.
Glue the flaps together to make the Ravana stand up.
Optional: Burn the Ravana Craft
If you want, you can burn the Ravana as they do on Dussehra, when people burn effigies of Ravana to symbolize the victory of good over evil. Just head to the outside and safely burn it as part of the fun!
This is the perfect activity for kids during Dussehra!
