Things you will need to make the Paper Weaving Bee Craft
- Paper Weaving Bee Template (Get it from our Printable Shop)
- 176 GSM Card stock in any Yellow (for printing) – You can use the same for weaving or even thicker ones – 250 GSM colour cardstock
- Paper Cutter
- Scissors
- Glue stick

Directions to Make the Paper Weaving Bee Craft
Here are the step-by-step instructions with photos to make the paper weaving bee – advanced level (1 cm strips).
Print the Template
Print the paper weaving bee template on sturdy yellow cardstock. A thickness of at least 175 GSM is recommended to prevent tearing and make handling easier for kids.
Print the wing template on blue paper and the eyes on white paper. Cut out pieces for the antenna with black paper.
Cut the Template
Carefully cut along the dotted vertical lines on the bee’s body. You need to place the paper over a cutting mat, use a ruler as a guide and cut using a cutter.
Be sure to leave a small gap at the edges to keep the structure intact. Next, cut out the circle.
Cut the Weaving Strips
Cut 1 cm-wide strips from black cardstock using a paper cutter or scissors. These will create the signature bee stripes.
Start Weaving
Take a black strip and weave it over and under through the slits in the bee template.
Repeat this process with the next strip, alternating the starting position.
Continue Weaving
Keep adding strips until the entire bee’s body is filled. Trim any excess length sticking out from the sides.
Glue the ends of the strips to keep them in place (optional)
Add Wings and Face
Cut out the blue wings and glue them to the back of the bee. Draw Eyes or glue on the eyes cutout from the printable template. Add a smile to complete the bee’s face.
For younger kids, try using 2 cm-wide strips for an easier version. This process is shown in the video.
It’s a great project for preschoolers and young children to practice hand-eye coordination while making adorable handmade decorations for spring!
