How to Make a Leaf Ganesha {Free Template}

With Ganesha Chaturthi just around the corner, I want to share one of the simplest and most doable Ganesha crafts. This Leaf Ganesha project is an Easy and perfect Craft for both kids and adults.

You’ve likely seen many Ganesha illustrations featuring leaves! All you need are 8 leaves to make it.

Which type of leaf is best for Ganesha craft?

Traditionally, this craft is made using betel or peepal leaves. However, we experimented with money plant leaves, and they worked beautifully.

Even if you don’t have these specific leaves, head outside for a backyard hunt and find any heart-shaped leaves to use for this craft.

Things you need to make this Ganesha Craft

Money plant Leaves. You can also use Betal leaves, or peepal leaves, any heart-shaped Leaf.
Glue stick
Ganesha Eye Printable or use Googly eyes
White Paper for the background
Construction paper in any colour for the seat
Washable Kids Paint in Yellow and Orange

How to make a Leaf Ganesha Craft?

Gather the Leaves First

You’ll need leaves of different sizes for this craft.

For the Head and Body: Use two large leaves.
For the Ears: Find two medium-sized leaves.
For the Hands and Legs: Gather four small leaves.

Gathering Money Plant leaves for the craft

Cut off the stems so the leaves lie flat on the surface.

Start with a plain white sheet of paper. Cut a trapezoid-shaped piece of coloured paper for the seat and paste it slightly below the centre of the page.

Begin with the Body

Take a large leaf and place it vertically above the seat. Use stick glue—apply it to the paper and press the leaf down in the centre.

Next, take another large leaf and paste it vertically above the first one. Position it so the pointed edge faces downward, representing Ganesha’s trunk.

Then, take the two medium-sized leaves and insert and stick them on either side of the head leaf to form the ears.

Similarly, place the medium-sized leaves horizontally under the body leaf to create the legs.

Finally, add the last two small leaves as the hands. Your Ganesha is now complete!

For the Eyes

You can download the template provided at the bottom of this post, print it out, and cut and paste the eyes. Alternatively, you can simply draw them on.

Another nice addition is a yellow and red “Pottu” (mark) on the forehead. Draw it on paper, cut it out, and paste it on.

You can also use a Sharpie marker to add eyebrows and other facial features.

Creating Thoranam

Use yellow and orange paint to create flower garlands commonly seen during festive occasions. Simply dip your middle finger in the paint and alternate colours to make a floral “Thoranam.”

That’s all it takes—your Leaf Ganesha is ready and here it is!

How Long Will the Leaf Ganesha Craft Last?

Once the leaves start to wilt, they’ll begin detaching from the paper and falling off. This craft will last for a couple of days, making it perfect for display during that time.
