Paper Plate Lord Ganesh Craft {Free Template}

Ganesh Chaturthi is always a lovely time to slow down and share a little about Lord Ganesha with children through stories, traditions, and simple creative activities.

One of the crafts we really enjoyed making was this Paper Plate Ganesha. It’s easy, colourful, and a fun way for kids to get involved while learning more about the meaning and symbolism of Lord Ganesha.

It works well for a festive activity at home, in the classroom, or anytime you’re exploring Ganesh Chaturthi with children.

Who is Lord Ganesh?

Ganesha is a popular Hindu deity and is the son of Shiva and Parvati. He is typically depicted as a human with the head of an elephant. Ganesha is widely revered as the lord of good beginnings and the remover of obstacles.

This craft is an easy way for kids to make their own Ganesha.

You will need

23 cm Paper plate
Scissors
Ganesha Template
Kid’s paint
Cardstock for printing

Step-by-Step Instructions:

I made this craft with my daughter, and while we didn’t take step-by-step photos this time, I’ve included a brief guide below. If possible, I’ll be updating this post soon with photos and a full video tutorial!

We kept ours simple — but feel free to get creative!

Download and print the Ganesha template at the end of this post. For best results, print it on cardstock. Regular paper may get soggy when painted.

Paint the paper plate in a skin-tone colour. We mixed yellow, white, and pink to get a shade we liked. Paint the ears and trunk (From the template) in the same colour.

Paint the crown pieces:

Most parts should be yellow (to resemble gold).
The V-shaped centrepiece of the crown can be painted in any contrasting colour.
Cut out all the pieces from the template and glue them onto the paper plate. You can refer to the sample Ganesha image provided in the template to help with placement.

Add final touches:

Draw on the bindi, trunk markings, eyebrows, and other facial features.
If you like, use 3D puffy paints, glitter, or stick-on gems to decorate the crown.
