How to Make an Egyptian Pyramid Craft (With Diorama Background)
This fun, hands-on activity lets kids build their 3D pyramid and create a mini desert scene with the Nile River — perfect for ancient Egypt units!
What You’ll Need:
- Egyptian pyramid Craft printable (Get it from the Printable Shop)
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Colouring materials (if using the B&W version)
- Watercolour Paper (For the Base)
- Watercolour Set or Washable paint Crayola

Step-by-Step Instructions
Print the Templates
For best results, print the pyramid templates on cardstock so they hold their shape well.
Colour the Pyramids
If you’re using the black and white version, let kids have fun colouring the pyramids before assembling them.
Cut Out the Pyramids
Carefully cut along the outer lines of the pyramid shapes. There are two sizes included — one makes a pyramid about 7 cm high, the other about 4 cm.
Fold the Pyramid
Fold all the flaps first, then crease along the lines that form the triangular sides of the pyramid.
Glue the Pyramid Together
Bring the sides together and glue the edges.
Next, fold and glue the bottom flaps to the square base. It’s easy to see how the shape forms as you go.
These pyramids are about 4cm base to top. So easy to make!
Paint the Desert Scene
Use an A4 or A5 watercolour paper to paint a desert background (Mix yellow and brown) with the Nile River running through it. This doesn’t need to be perfect — just represent where pyramids were built near the river.
Assemble the Diorama
Once the paint is dry, paste the pyramids onto the background. You can place them randomly to represent different pyramids across the region.
Add Extra Details
Cut out and glue the tree, camel, and boat pieces included with the printable. These extras bring the scene to life!
Optional: Add Texture
